Understanding and maintaining the source of health is as important as diagnosing and treating illnesses. The potential of the food we eat and the beverages we drink to cause disease is undeniable. The same applies to “HEALING”. For a healthy life, our food sources and their diversity must be sustainable.

A “Personalised Nutrition Programme” tailored to the individual makes a significant contribution to the treatment process. When planning a nutrition programme, factors that vary from person to person must be clearly identified by the doctor and nutritionist. These include age, gender, height, weight, metabolic rate, blood test results, lifestyle, physical activity, any existing illnesses, any medications taken, any hereditary and familial diseases, and favourite and disliked foods. If necessary, it can also be supplemented with scientifically proven, reliable, and varied herbal supplements. It is also very important to monitor the sustainability of a nutrition programme created by taking all of these factors into account.

Proper nutrition always plays a complementary role in the treatment of diseases and in promoting a healthy lifestyle. It becomes a complete whole when combined with other practices that promote mental and physical health. When looking at nutrition programmes, they should have characteristics that will guide the course of the disease. These can be listed as follows.

• Strengthen the immune system and metabolism,
• Reduce the risk of familial diseases, if any,
• Enhance the effects and quality of treatment and reduce side effects, if any disease is present,
• Promote healthy habits and lifestyle,
• Empower individuals to take responsibility for their health,
• Improve quality of life and promote well-being,
• Prevent chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease,
• Ensure healthy living and healthy ageing.

I frequently observe the effect of nutrition on neurological diseases in my patients’ follow-ups. People who learn about nutrition live longer, happier and healthier lives. They play a more active role in the recovery process.
